Watch Tottenham Hotspurs Train in San Jose

One of the English Premier Leagues most exciting teams, Tottenham Hotspurs, are playing a friendly against the San Jose Earthquakes this Saturday.

Spurs site also mentions that an open training is taking place this Thursday at 9AM. This could be a wonderful way for players and parents to see world class players up close and in action. Here's the info from the site.

The Club is pleased to announce that we will hold an open training session in San Jose as part of our forthcoming training camp in the USA.

The open session will be at our club partner San Jose Earthquakes' Nutrilite Training Facility at 9am local time (Pacific Time, USA) on Thursday, July 15.

Fans are welcome to take this opportunity to come and watch the lads being put through their paces as we prepare for an exciting 2010-11 campaign.

Try this at Home!

Hey Clash Players,
Getting a little frustrated with your juggling? It's not so hard, just takes a little practice. Hope this can inspire you!

Good News for Iraq

Iraq's soccer team had a HUGE upset to win the Asia Cup. Some good news from a country that doesn't have much. (any?) Always interesting to me how soccer can be such a huge part of a countries political and social structure.

If this interests you, there's a great book called How Soccer Explains the World: An Unlikely Theory of Globalization It has the good and the bad that occurs around the game in the name of power, politics and religions.

The Iraq win is something to discuss with the players on the Clash. How the team and country came together around the Asia Cup.

Great Article on how to praise kids

Hi All,
Here's a great article from New York Magazine
about the power, and challenges of praising kids. Here's a snippet but it's well worth reading.

The researchers would take a single child out of the classroom for a nonverbal IQ test consisting of a series of puzzles—puzzles easy enough that all the children would do fairly well. Once the child finished the test, the researchers told each student his score, then gave him a single line of praise. Randomly divided into groups, some were praised for their intelligence. They were told, “You must be smart at this.” Other students were praised for their effort: “You must have worked really hard.”

Why just a single line of praise? “We wanted to see how sensitive children were,” Dweck explained. “We had a hunch that one line might be enough to see an effect.”

Then the students were given a choice of test for the second round. One choice was a test that would be more difficult than the first, but the researchers told the kids that they’d learn a lot from attempting the puzzles. The other choice, Dweck’s team explained, was an easy test, just like the first. Of those praised for their effort, 90 percent chose the harder set of puzzles. Of those praised for their intelligence, a majority chose the easy test. The “smart” kids took the cop-out.

Soccer Clinic

Here's 7 minutes from a game on Sunday in London where Manchester United puts on a clinic. Have our players watch this and pay attention to the movement without the ball, the fast shooting, wonderful heading and defensive positioning.

does anyone look at this?

Fall and Spring '07 Tryouts this Saturday at 8AM - Highlands

Hi, we are hosting a tryout for spring and fall seasons this weekend.

We hope to expand our roster by 8-10 players for both seasons. In the
spring we will carry 21-24 players and perhaps add a few more in the
fall. In the spring a majority of these players will be in other sports, and this will allow them to do both. We know that few players can make every spring game due
to other sports, but this will allow us to field a team for each game.

Our new plan is to carry the new players into the fall, and form a
second team that will play in US Soccer Club Norcal League. This new team would include the new players, in addition to our current players,
but would primarily rely on new players in matches thus maximizing their
playing time.

To clarify, in the fall we will have a roster of of about
23-25 Clash Players, supporting 2 teams in 2 leagues. The NorCal team
will be made up of the new players and supplemented with 4-5 CY players
as needed to get 14-15 players on the team for game days. Whenever
possible CY will be on Sunday and Norcal on Saturdays.

We also plan to add another coach to our coaching staff. The team would
practice together and be treated as one group. Both Laurent and I have
experience in this size of a team, and have seen it work effectively.

We are excited by the opportunity to expand the San Carlos Clash, and
have more players in our family. We've been highly successful in
building a team and developing players, and we believe that this will
only make all the players stronger and get more enjoyment out of soccer.
If your son is interested in joining our team, please let us know and
attend our tryout this Saturday, February 10th at Stadium Field in San
Carlos. If you have any questions please email me at rgo1234@gmail.com

Also, please check out our team blog and team website to get a better
understanding of our team values, goals and philosophy.

Our tryout is now set for next Saturday February 10th at Stadium, from
8-10AM. Please let me know if your son will be attending.
